A bit of a down day

Yesterday Ezie didn't do quite as well as he had been doing for the past 3 or 4 days. Now don't worry at all please, because it's nothing severe or big; he was just more fussy and unhappy, so they suspect he may have another infection, or may have too much mucus in his lungs. Sooo they sent cultures off to check for an infection, started antibiotics just in case, put him on sedatives, and have started sucking the mucus out of his lungs more frequently. They were going to take him off the vent yesterday, but then this minor drama happened, and so he is still on it at least for today, and maybe 2 or 3 more days. Sigh. It's never-ending. I expected him to have a sort of "bad" day because he had been having sooo many good days. This is just the way it goes--- a few good days, then a bad day... then a few more good days, then another bad day. Just up and down, up and down. As long as we have more ups then downs, we are making progress. Hopefully today he will recover from yesterday and do well again. :)

Meanwhile, my laundry is piled to the ceiling, there is no food in my fridge/pantry, my whole house is a disaster, basically..... It seems we are never here, or when I am here, I am pumping/trying to scrape together some sort of meal/showering. That's ok though.

I am sorry that there have been some "down days". You are doing a great job of not getting discouraged. From what I understand this happens a lot... 5 steps forward, 4 back. But still there is progress! Hang in there. I am sure you are tired, but you are doing a great job.
I wish I could come help take care of you.
He is looking more beautiful and strong every day btw.

Many many hugs and prayers---

Sounds like Ezie is doing great with his hard and important work, and that his docs are taking great care of him. He is a superstar, and I know you will always be in awe of his strength and resilience. He is blessed to have you as his mom.

FWIW in a couple of years he's going to be sick with a bug of some sort. You'll go to the pediatrician who will say "It's a virus, or maybe not" and send you off with a prescription just in case. And you will think how vague that is and how Ezie once had cultures taken if he sneezed the wrong direction :).

It *will* get better. Slowly but surely you're going to have fewer hard days and more good days. Keep on keeping on, and leaning on the eternal provider of strength. I'm praying that your "normal" keeps getting better and better.

Hang in there, sweetie. You and Daniel have been amazing. This is such a stressful roller coaster. But Jesus will keep the cars on the track. Love, Mom

You are doing a great job of keeping your head on your shoulders-especially for the stressful situation you are in!! I know it's easy to get caught up in the daily (hourly) NICU stresses-it's so good that you are able to see beyond the bad days-see it for what it is and look forward to the good days!! Keep up the pumping!!!!! You guys are doing great! And share more pictures-love to see his cute face!

Keep your chin up, I know it must be tough even on the "good days". He's so beautiful (in a masculine sort of way) and I'm sure it's so hard not to have him home all the time. And the pumping thing, well, geez, I won't even go there!
We love you guys so much, and think of you many times a day in our prayers and loving thoughts.
Love,
Teresa and Dad

Ezie,
We love you! Keep strong, grow healthier each day. I pray for you, your mommy and daddy each day. I cannot wait to see you, and hold you. I have loved you for a very long time, and you're already in my heart. I just want to hold you in my arms too.

Love, Gma

Hi Ezie -

This is your grandma in Ohio. It's 7:05am Friday, and I just watched all your videos one more time before leaving for work. I love starting my mornings that way with you. I hope you can feel the hugs and kisses I'm sending.

Wednesday we shipped all the baby presents to your house from your mommy's baby shower in Ohio in July. Your mommy and daddy should get them next Wednesday. You have a lot of cool stuff when you come home, Baby Ezie!

Keep growing, and do something cute for Mommy and Daddy at least once every day while they are there with you at the NICU. Mommys and Daddys need those kinds of things from their adorable babies, you know! They want to take you home so badly.

I can't wait to see you....just 5.5 more days!

Love,
Grandma in Ohio
